The Time Traveler's Wife

"It's hard being left behind. I wait for Henry, not knowing where he is, wondering if he's okay. It's hard to be the one who stays. "

Just so you all know, even though I loved it, I'm reluctant and hesitant about being the one to recommend this book. My sister recommended me this book a few years ago which, after reading it, surprised me since it's not just about time travel but about librarians, art, punk rock, sex, Chicago, and alcoholics. I think after awhile it got to her that she'd told me to read it with all that stuff in it because she called me up and said, "If you haven't read that book yet, maybe you shouldn't, and if you do can you not tell anyone I gave it to you?" It's true there's some questionable parts, but whatever. I think what she liked about it besides the art, and what I liked about it too, was the love story between Claire and Henry. It's very unique and different from any other story I've read. They are so different in so many ways, but make it work and then seeing how their love gets stronger and changes in every situation was really neat to follow. They know each other so well and their love never seems to diminish and since I was married at the time I read this, I thought that was awesome and I remember wanting to be a little more like them in my marriage...maybe next time :)
...And then there's the time travel part. It's a totally different take on what time travel could be like and it creates some really funky situations which are the basis for the whole story. The author organizes the book with really neat foreshadowing and she revisits the same scenes again and again from each perspective. I found myself going back to the beginning again and again to read parts over when they came up later in the book. The format takes awhile to get used to but when you do it's a really different reading experience which I thought was a fun change. If you're confused for awhile just keep reading, you'll figure it out.
Also they just made a movie of it that'll be coming out soon so maybe we could have a night out this summer and go see it. (I didn't want to post pictures from it to sway your imagination, but I liked this one. It's so exactly how I pictured it. )

Oh and just so you all know. Do not look this book up on Wikipedia because it tells everything. I mean everything down to the details of the end of the book. It's ridiculous. Don't look at it.

Good tip Katie, and I found the paper back on Amazon for $3.00, since I have it on good intelligence that it cannot be had in the Salt Lake City library system.

I downloaded the audio book and so far very good. Also check half.com, good prices there, too.

Did you know that Google Book had the full book online until this morning? I was reading it when they must have realized their mistake and all of a sudden the next page was the back cover. =(

I just ordered it off of amazon, so I'll get started in about a week.

Gina I saw your review of it goodreads. I should loan you my copy and maybe put a sticky note on the two really bad parts.
