The Light in the Piazza

Margaret Johnson and her daughter Clara go on vacation to
Italy. Clara becomes intrigued with a local Florentine Fabrizio. Their friendship starts out to be nothing serious, but soon develops into something more for both of them. Margaret tries to keep a past accident involving Clara a secret, and becomes torn between her responsibility as a mother and Clara's desires to love Fabrizio.

This novel was written in 1960 by Elizabeth Spencer. It has been made into a musical. Don't do what I did and start reading the screenplay for the musical. Confusing!! I had a hard time switching my mind from the screenplay to the actual novel, and was not enjoying the novel as much as I should have been. My cousin highly recommended it, it is short (about 65 pages, maybe a couple hours read at most), so I wanted to give it a try. I am looking forward to reading it again and then discussing it in June!

Argh! I am on a list for the book at the library. I am suspicious that someone else of this very bookclub has requested the book. Be ye warned, there will be no renewals...

There are no copies of this book to be found in St George :(

BUT. We sang a collection of songs from the musical with my community choir for our concert last weekend. And wow. Wow. That is some amazing music. If you get the chance, you should check it out on youtube. Beautiful stuff.

There is a strong possibility I will miss this month's book club. My first absence. It makes me sad to give up my perfect attendance, but you guys can't let Candi sneak in a young adult fantasy series book when my back is turned. I find rolling my eyes works well. Megan and Gina...I'm counting on you two so start practicing your eye rolls now.

Now that you've said that, I'm only going to be worse...
